Background
Charleston, South Carolina and its environs have experienced unusually high growth in the recent decade, for an interesting reason. It seems New York City residents looking to find more affordable housing and to escape New York’s cold winters are moving south in droves, and Charleston, with its southern hospitality, is welcoming migrants. Hanahan, Moncks Corner, and Goose Creek, bedroom communities of Charleston, are a few of the “Lowcountry” cities experiencing population expansion—and the areas schools are being impacted as well.
The Challenge
When Berkeley County School District in Moncks Corner, South Carolina got funding to replace its 61-year-old middle school building to accommodate a rising student population, they opted to approve plans for a state-of-the-art Hanahan Middle School campus, projected to be completed for the 2026-27 school year. In the meantime, the school district needed a temporary solution that ensures a high-quality education as well as a safe environment for students and staff.
Our Solution
Mobile Modular went to work creating a six-unit (168’ x 64’ each) Mod Pod temporary structure on the four available acres at the elementary school site, and this structure welcomed students in August 2024.
The temporary campus will be utilized throughout the 2025-2026 school year (or longer, depending on completion of the permanent building/campus). The temporary campus includes the following:
The temporary structures are designed to be as safe as a traditional build, and include monitored entry points as well as access control and security cameras.
Why Call Mobile Modular
Mobile Modular was able to complete delivery and setup of the six units by the end of May 2024 with all site-related services--decks, ramps, and canopies--installed by August 1 in order to be ready for students for the 2024-2025 school year.
We deliver quick affordable solutions for schools and a host of other government, business, and civic applications. Talk to one of our friendly sales representatives today at 866-535-8923 to get your project started.
